Cnidaria is a phylum of aquatic (mostly marine) animals that includes jellyfish, sea anenomes, coral and hydra. There are two major body plans of cnidarians, free-swimming medusa (jellyfish) and sessile polyps (anenomes, coral). Their radially symmetrical bodies consist of mesoglea, a non-living jelly-like substance, sandwiched between two layers of epithelial cells, usually only one cell thick each. (Wikipedia)
disclaimer: i do not own or claim to own any pictures posted here. also, although this blog was designed to cover all of the phylum, i find more photos of jellyfish than any other group of cnidarians. (i also think they are the most fascinating, both to me and many others)
